Eye, Alexander McQueen S/S 2000

The show was staged on the evening when Hurricane Floyd hit America. Most designers canceled their runway presentations, but McQueen felt that the hurricane added to the drama and spectacle. The collection was inspired by Islam, and the finale ended with models wearing burkas flying over the runway, which had been morphed into a bed of nails. McQueen’s collections often channeled our cultural anxieties and uncertainties.
